There are lots of free anti virus and anti spyware programs. AVG and Malwarebytes are 2 that come to mind. Google them.
Avira is free for personnel use. It bugs you to update but just ignore that.

Also Microsoft Defender for Spyware:

AVG is no longer free
We can download Antivirus and Antispyware from Internet. When I bought Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 I got serial number with it. But I have to download the updated version of Kaspersky Internet Security. We can activate some antivirus online which we download from internet. Like we can activate AVAST antivirus online for free. Some antivirus can be activated online for that purpose you will have to pay the money via credit card / debit card / netbanking etc. But I will recommend you to buy Antivirus locally because once I try to directly contact the company so that I can purchase the product and they gave me the number of local dealer.
You can download Anti-Virus (many have anti-spyware included, and there are loads of free anti-spyware programs) and they will give you a product key to activate it, so you don’t need to buy it from the shop.
Paid AVs:
)
)
-Trend Micro Internet Security Pro
-Kaspersky Internet Security
-Norton Internet Security (yeah I added Norton to the list, don’t heckle me
-McAfee Internet Security (as above
Free AVs:
-Malwarebytes AntiMalware
-AVG
-Avast! (free edition)
Free Anti-Spyware:
-Spybot Search and Destroy
-Superantispyware
-AdAware SE (ad programs too)
Wtf lol I really wonder where the people that replied here got their information.
You should probably buy an internet security suit. The top ones are:
1. Kaspersky Internet Security (Recommended)
2. Norton Internet Security
3. Panda Internet Security
4. ESET Smart Security
Why? The internet is way more dangerous today than 20 years ago, and an antivirus alone isn’t enough to keep your computer secure.
Warning: Do not buy McAfee or Trend Micro because they suck. I recommend reading the reviews on CNET if you want more information of what’s the best security suit for you.
There are some free security softwares, but they won’t provide you with a complete protection.
For free antiviruses, the best are:
1. Avira AntiVir
2. Microsoft Security Essentials (Recommended)
3. Avast
4. AVG
For free antispywares/antimalwares, the best are:
1. SUPERAntiSpyware
2. Malwarebytes AntiMalware
3. Lavsoft Ad-Aware
4. Windows Defender (Recommended)
And also, there is only one free behavioral antimalware:
1. Threatfire (Recommended)
My recommendations go for least resources used on your computer to prevent your computer from obtaining malicious software. If you believe that you already have a virus or a spyware, then you might want to use the first on the list. The lists go from best detection to least detection. Keep in mind that you may only have 1 antivirus and 1 antispyware, but if you choose free security, you should also have Threatfire.
Is A Anti-virus Software Cost Effective Or Should I Just Download A Free One?
Check out the list below:
1. AVG Free
a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)
b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses
Cons: low virus detection
2. Avast!
a. Real-time protection
b. It has an option to delete a virus once found
c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.
Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface
3. Avira AntiVir
a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG
b. It’s cute umbrella icon
c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses
Cons: A very sluggish update
I advise against Norton anti-virus, it’s bloated software that slows your computer down. The best anti-virus available is Kaspersky or NOD32 (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).
4. Wondershare spyware removal – free spyware removal
a.Potent system security protector to remove spyware, trojans and other malware
b.Large malware signature library
c.Proactive defense available
d.Real-time system monitor available
cons:Good at remove spyware, trojan virus

Downloading anti spyware is incredibly easy on the internet. In fact, I just did that 3 days ago. It was a free download and scan. After scanning and identifying several infections, I’m glad to say that I decided to purchase the product. The installation was automatic and afterwards my computer was completely restored to normal. I’ve now got the speed back to what it used to be and no more popups. Check it out at this address:

I hope this helps you out.
Best of Luck
It is possible to download anti-virus and anti-spyware programs off of the Internet. Such examples include AVG Free and Windows Defender.
As for what you said for the description of this question, it doesn’t quite make sense. Downloading anti-virus or anti-spyware programs off the Internet will not result in you not being able to activate the software.
