I heard that Bit defender takes up a lot of ram. My laptop has 4 gb of ram. Will downloading it slow down my computer? And is it a good anti virus software?

all anti-virus programs will likely take up a lot of ram, as they as generally resource needing programs, but with 4gb of RAM you will definitely be fine :)
I have not heard a lot of buzz about bit defender, but I know Microsoft’s security essentials has come a long way these days :)

DO NOT TURN YOUR PC OFF OR USE SYSTEM RESTORE! The key to this infection is getting rid of it fast. The longer it remains on your system the more it disables and prevents removal The first thing not to do is click on the X to exit the program or pop-ups if and when they appear. This will only multiply the infection. . Press Alt + F4 to exit the pop-ups. . Next, control panel > internet options > connections > LAN Settings. Make sure the box for use proxie servers is unchecked and that auto detect settings is checked. This should restore your ability to access the net. Next, click on the first link below and choose save. Save the file to your desktop for convenience. Click on the icon and let rkill run. Rkill is not a scanner. It will not scan your computer. Most people think they are unable to download rkill bcoz of it’s characteristics. When you click ro run rkill a black screen will appear similar to that of command prompt. It will say scanning to end the process for known malware. The screen will suddenly disappear. This is where people get confused. You do no receive a warning or any other message of what process has been stopped. Nevertheless, when the window for rkill disappears you are ready to download, update and scan with Malwarebytes. If you already have Malwarebytes on your computer at the time you became infected you will probably need to uninstall it and re-install. This is due to the files being corrupted by the infection on your computer. However, when uninstalling you will be prompted to re-start your computer. DO NOT DO THIS. Simply re-instlall. If you re-start your computer the process for the malware will start-up and you will have to run rkill again and even possibly remove and re-install Malwarebytes again as well. Update and choose quick scan of MBAM. Next, download Hijack This from the third link below and choose “Do a system scan and save log file”. Once the scan is complete the log file will open. Copy and paste the results into the text box of the fourth link below (although the main menu window offers you to upload the file log it is much faster to copy and paste). After pasting, click analyze and wait for the results to display. Scroll down the list to find all entries with a red x next to them. Locate those entries in the Hijack This main window and place check marks in the respective boxes. After all invalid entries have been marked click on “fix selected”. If you need further assistance you can email me from my Yahoo Answers profile page. Good luck!!

Question by Tim Buck: I recently bought a brand new 24-Inch iMac. Should I be concerned about viruses?
I’ve heard a lot about how Apple built computers do not get viruses, but is that really true. Is it worth investing money into anti-virus software for my iMac?

Question by Thrash Till Death: How many security programs should you have on your computer?
I am completely technology illiterate and I don’t know the difference between firewall protection and antivirus protection and spyware protection and whatever other type of protection there is out there! If you would please explain the diferences to me and tell me the ones that I should have on my computer. Also, the security program I have on my computer is fixing to expire so if there are any good security programs I can download for free that would be greatly appreciated as well!

Download: I am switching from Norton Antivirus to McAffee, should I uninstall Nortan before downloading the other?

Question by movieluver91: I am switching from Norton Antivirus to McAffee, should I uninstall Nortan before downloading the other?
Or should I download McAffee before uninstalling Norton?

Best answer:

Answer by InsaneVr6
It doesnt really matter what order you do it in, as long as they are both not installed at the same time.

If I had to pick one, I would say download McAffee before getting rid of Norton, just to be safe.

However, you really wont see any difference between the two AV’s. They are both big, slow, and dont do their job well.

If you are investing in an antivirus, I suggest that you get Nod32. You can download the trial for free to test it out. It is by far the best AV that 8 of my computers have ever used.

Anyway hope I helped.

Download: How much kb/s should i be able to download if I have a 5 meg connection?

Question by Dhnys: How much kb/s should i be able to download if I have a 5 meg connection?
I’m connected to a router and sharing the internet with 2 other computers. My internet has been really slow lately and its driving me crazy. I have been able to download around 5 – 20 kb/s. I don’t know if its so slow because there are too many computers on the network or someone has a virus. I have ran antivirus and spyware programs and don’t think there is anything wrong with my computer. What kind of speeds should i normally be seeing with a 5 meg connection?

Best answer:

Answer by KDFrosty
5mbps = 5000kbps

Keep in mind that that’s the peak. It all depends on the server you’re downloading from, your available bandwidth, and local network usage. So 5meg connection is a peak, not sustained speed.
