Hi Try http://00112233.adwarebot.hop.clickbank.net/ It is a great online spyware removal tool and gives you a FREE trial and provides all round protection against viruses and spyware.
There is a lot off rogue anti-virus software out there. They tend to find viruses and ask for money even when your machine is clean, so you need solid references.
F.e., don’t listen to MeG, who says just do a Google search. I followed his link, and one of the 1st sites to appear has a red rating for bad downloads from McAfee Siteadvisor. Yikes, ya thank-you MeG. No charge for that information I presume.
So consider the source of anything. Most of the answers give you websites and programs you have no clue about. That’s playing Russian roulette with your computer.
All my links are well known and legitimate, so get your links for a specific program through them:
1) CNET http://www.cnet.com/ > downloads is a great start because they screen their featured downloads.
2) About.com is CNET’s toughest competition for computer advice in my expericence:
http://antivirus.about.com/ is another great link. About.com is owned by the NY Times and is written by experts, unlike the people answering here.
3) BBC has excellent information and a lot of links on computer security:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/5414992.stm
4) PC World is well respected as a magazine online and offline:
http://www.pcworld.com/search?qt=anti-virus
About.com did some testing of free anti-virus programs at:
http://antivirus.about.com/od/antivirussoftwarereviews/a/freeav.htm
About.com reported:
“The Final Scores
If we left spyware/adware removal out of the mix and focused only on the scanner’s ability to detect traditional virus threats, out of a possible 125.6 points, AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic scored 94, AVAST 4 Home Edition scored 89, and AVG Free Edition scored 66. However, when we included adware/spyware removal in the judging, the results were dismal, with AVAST scoring highest at 66 points, AntiVir following at 58, and AVG with only 30.
Of course, these particular antivirus scanners don’t claim to have adware and spyware removal capabilities, so it would be unfair to judge them harshly if they do not. Still, if you are looking for a standalone antivirus scanner that can also offer spyware or adware protection, you’ll have to shell out a few dollars to get it. ”
That seems to say you should try the free versions and spend some money for a full-version computer security program.
